Hi

Thanks so much for dropping by and taking an interest in my work.  Here I will tell you a little bit about myself and do my best to keep it brief.

I consider myself to be a photographic artist, as opposed to a photographer. This is because I enjoy, in equal part, both the photography and subsequent photo editing process. I absolutely embrace the current opportunities afforded us by the availability of a multitude of photo editing software. Indeed, many is the time that my photographs only really take shape, and meet my vision, after I have indulged in a good hour or two, or three, or more even, of photo editing, I can certainly get lost in that particular creative process.

I am frequently inspired by nature, my studies of which range from soft focus, thought-provoking compositions, such as this image entitled Walk with Me, to sharp focus, detail-orientated pieces, as shown in my Leaf Lines series. I do seem to be rather drawn to abstract expressionism, so instead of observing an entire scene in front of me I tend to prefer seeking out lines, shapes, patterns and colours and I'll be thinking, how can I highlight that particular aspect of the scene such that, compositionally, it sits comfortably as the main subject of the piece.

For example, my Cutlery Set series of images is largely to do with lines and patterns, whereas my Colourful Florals series is all about vibrant colour and detail and, as a by-the-by, putting together the latter series also resulted in me becoming a little better at looking after Dahlias!

I am absolutely passionate about animals and have spent many a happy hour photographing dogs. Put me in a field full of dogs with a camera in my hand and I am certainly in one of my happy places! I recently did a one to one (or should that be one to two) photo shoot with our eldest daughter and her rescue dog, Tasha, it was a really fun session. Photo  And understandably I can't show one of the grand-dogs without the other! This is Dougal our youngest daughter's rescue dog. Photo 

I have not done a tremendous amount of wildlife photography, although this is something I would like to pursue more. I think capturing endearing, or maybe comical, moments would be my ideal goal. I definitely like to use my photography to portray personality, character and individuality in the hopes of encouraging the viewer to feel an emotional connection with all animals rather than with just cats and dogs.
